We need your help!- Funded!

I have posted a project on the website DonorsChoose.org for new station materials for our classroom.  When we order from Scholastic, we are able to get lots of fiction listening station materials, however nonfiction listening materials are not available through that site.  Through another company, I found Science and Social Studies listening center materials that I know the students would love!  To receive these materials, we have to receive donations.  If you, a family member, or friend would like to donate for our project, now is the time!  For the first seven days the project is posted, you can put in the code “INSPIRE” and your donation will be matched!  This would mean we would only need to raise half as much money to receive our materials!  Please feel free to share our project information with others so we can utilize these books and CDs as soon as possible!  The coupon for donation matching expires February 28^th!

100th Day!

This week we celebrated the 100th day of school! Yippy! The students wrote what they thought they would be like when they are 100. Take a look!

There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books

Thanks to all of the parent online orders from Scholastic, we had enough points built up for everyone to get a new book yesterday! We all read There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books and practiced sequencing events with a flow map. The students loved the book and the flow maps were awesome!

This week, we will be reviewing the same material but with different books and themes. :)  In first grade, our units of study last for more than one week, so for February I may post a monthly calendar instead of weekly posts.  Keep an eye out! :)

Reading- Describing Character behavior- Kevin Henke's books

110.12.1.09.A - Students are expected to:describe the plot (problem and solution) and retell a storys beginning, middle, and end with attention to the sequence of events; and
110.12.1.09.B - Students are expected to:describe characters in a story and the reasons for their actions and feelings.
110.12.RCS.1.D - The student is expected to make inferences about text and use textual evidence to support understanding;

Language Arts- Writing for an Audience- stretching words, handwriting, making the story interesting

110.12.1.17.C - Students are expected to:revise drafts by adding or deleting a word, phrase, or sentence;
110.12.1.17.D - Students are expected to:edit drafts for grammar, punctuation, and spelling using a teacher-developed rubric; and
