Our first week was AWESOME!

We had a wonderful first week of school!  We reviewed words from Kinder, reviewed numbers 0-20, developed our Social Contract, and learned LOTS of procedures.  The students are so sweet, bright, and helpful.  It looks like we are going to have a great year!  Here are a few things I wanted to be sure you are aware of:

HOMEWORK
Homework will be given on a monthly calendar with a Reading Log on the back.  This page should stay in the red Take Home Folder.  Each night when the student completes the homework, a parent should initial in the box.  Students should also read 20 minutes per night, and this can be recorded on the Reading Log.  I will check to see if homework is completed on Fridays.  If your family has plans on a weeknight and your student is unable to complete his/her homework, please try to complete it another day during the week.  As long as all homework is completed by Friday, the student will receive a sticker for the week.

SOCIAL CONTRACT
During the first week of school we developed and continually reviewed our Social Contract (our set of class rules).  As a class we decided how students wanted to treat each other, how I should be treated, and how we should handle conflict.  We decided we should:  use kind words, be safe, be respectful, do the right thing (integrity), listen, follow directions, no bullying, keep our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves, be in a good mood, etc.  If students do not follow the Social Contract, they will have to change their color to blue, yellow, or red.  Each time they change their color, they will have to spend 5 additional minutes walking to reflect at recess.  If students are leaders and examples to the class, they will move their clip to purple and receive a sticker for the day.  Please initial on the behavior page each day in the red Take Home Folder!

WISH LIST- ADDITIONAL ITEMS NEEDED FOR THE CLASSROOM
Thank you so much for providing the school supplies requested on the list by the district!  Throughout the year, a few additional items are needed to make our class a clean, happy, successful place.  If your family is able to help supply any of these additional “wish list” items for the classroom, please send them with your student to school.  Items needed are:
Pencils (we can NEVER have enough pencils- they disappear!)
                   Clorox disinfecting wipes
                   Clothes pins
                   Wooden craft sticks
                   Paper towels
Picture books for our Classroom Library
                   Paper Bags
                   Playground Balls (Kickball, Soccerball, Football)
                   Stickers
